Auburn and Cayuga County are rich with local history, and the History Discovery Center is proud to be a community leader in providing access to discovering local history.
What we offer
The History Discovery Center offers a variety of materials detailing the local history. Our local history collection includes special collections on the Auburn Correctional Facility and Harriet Tubman.
Ancestry & Heritage Quest
We offer access to Ancestry within the library as well as HeritageQuest, which is also accessible from home with a Seymour Library or other Finger Lakes Library System card. Both resources provide access to several historic documents including the NY and Federal census, Revolutionary War records, directory listings and more.
Books & Periodicals
Seymour Library offers access to several periodicals of historic interest including New York Archives and New York Researcher, and within the History Discovery Center, The Record and The Register.
While the History Discovery Center retains some bound newspapers, including the Auburn Bulletin (1877-78, 1903-1905), the Auburn Daily News and Bulletin (1880, 1882, & 1884), the Auburn Daily Advertiser/Advertiser Journal (1892, 1895-1931), and the Auburn Citizen (1918-1963), our vast newspaper collection (with papers dating back to the 1830s) is best viewed on our microfilm machine, our digital archive or fultonhistory.com.
